23rd Hyderabad Book Fair 18-28th December 2008

Hyderabad Book Society has been formed by well-known and renowned publishers and sellers in 1985 to organize book exhibition. The first book fair was organized in City Grandhalaya in Ashoknagar. Noticing the overwhelming response, venue of the exhibtion was changed to Nizam College Grounds, and subsequently to Public Gardens, Exhibition Grounds, Kesav Memorial High School grounds, and in the last two years to People’s Plaza in the Necklace road. Keeping the overwhelming response during last year in view, exhibtion is being organized this year at the same venue(People’s Plaza). The main purpose of these exhibtions has been to inculcate book reading habit among one and all and continuously increase their knowledge base. This purpose is being achieved with increasing success every year.

This year’s exhibition is 23rd one. So far, it has been acclaimed as the most important one qualitatively after the one being conducted annually at Calcutta. Both national and international book publishars of repute have been participating in this exhibition. International publishars like Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press, Sage, Penguin, Orient Black Swan etc, have been participating every year.

About 180 book stalls are being put up this year, out of which 110 stalls will be exhibiting publications in English language. Ten stalls have been earmarked for Daily news papers. About 50 stalls will be exhibiting Telugu publications. Several stalls will be there for Hindi, and Urdu languages. Public sector publishers like National Book Trust, Kendra Sahitya Academy, Publications Division, Telugu Academy, and Telugu University will also be participating in this exhibition. Publishers from Delhi, Chennai, Calcutta, Mumbai, Vijayawada, besides those from Hyderabad, will be participating in this exhibition.

Purana sahityam, novels, story books, children’s books, students books, education related books, text books, engineering and medical profession books, progressive literature, creative literature, exciting people of all ages, will be available in this exhibition.

The exhibition will be inaugurated by SRI KONIJETI ROSAIAH Hon.Minister for Finance, Legislative Affairs, Planning, Small Savings and Lotterries,by 6.00 PM on 18th December 2008. SRI C. DAMODAR RAJANARASIMHA Hon.Minister for School Education, SCERT, Govt Examinations, Govt Text book press, A.P.R.E.I Society & Hyderabad Public Schools will be the Chief Guest, and SRI K.PRABHAKAR REDDY I.A.S Special Secretary To Chief Minister Govt of A.P, SRI V.RAVI PRAKASH C.E.O Tv9, Have agreed to be the Guests of Honour for inauguration.

The fair will be open daily between 2.00 and 9.00 PM. A general discount of 10% will be available on all the purchases made in the exhibition.

To encourage individual writers,one exclusive stall is being apportioned as ‘Writers Stall’. Those interested to display their publications, can register their names by paying Rs.100. Each author will be allocated one shelf for display/sale.

Entrance fee has been kept at Rs.5 per person. About a lakh free passes are being issued to educational institutions, academicians, writers etc. Students , teachers and Journalists can avail free entry by showing their identity cards.

It has been planned to honour all those, who have tirelessly worked,to ensure recognition of Telugu language as ‘ancient language’. Several discussions/seminars will be organized during the event.
